And that news comes after the Houston Rockets have agreed to let Anthony leave for the Chicago Bulls.
But ESPN journalist Adrian Wojnarowski has also given an update on the 34-year-old and interest from the Lakers.
He tweeted: “Sources: The Lakers maintain interest in Anthony, but do not want to waive a guaranteed player to create a roster spot for him, league sources tell ESPN.
“If a roster spot eventually opens with LA, yes, the Lakers are a possible destination for Anthony.”
Wojnarowski also went into more detail on an agreement between the Rockets and the Bulls over Anthony.
He explained: “Carmelo Anthony will not play a game for the Bulls, but it is possible that franchise holds off on waiving him until the trade deadline, league sources tell ESPN.
“Bulls could include him in a one-for-one trade, but can't aggregate his contract in another deal.
“For Anthony, his best bet is waiting until the Feb. 7 trade deadline to find his next team.
“He can wait for roster spots to open, trades to happen, etc, that'll create the best opportunity for him.
“Anthony wants to find a place to contribute.”
The 10-time All-Star will leave before the February 7 trade deadline.
Anthony is expected to move to the Bull on Tuesday due to NBA offices being closed due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day in America.
LeBron James seemingly gave his approval to the idea of Anthony teaming up with him at the Staples Center.
Cuff The Legend - a longtime friend of James and a player development coach - posted a mocked up photo of Anthony wearing a Lakers jersey alongside the three-time NBA champion.
“I remember when the Bad Boy Pistons acquired Mark Aguirre and people said it wouldn’t work,” the caption read.
And James clearly took notice of the post and made his opinion obvious by ‘liking’ the picture.
