'We're not giving up on that': Huddersfield chairman Dean Hoyle determined to avoid relegation and admits he tracked new boss Jan Siewert for two years
Huddersfield tracked Jan Siewert for two years and want their new boss to focus on the long term as hopes of Premier League survival grow slimmer.
Siewert, who at 36 is the Premier League's youngest boss, signed a two-year contract to take charge after David Wagner's departure, with the club 12 points from safety.
Chairman Dean Hoyle revealed that his first contact with the former Borussia Dortmund II head coach came in 2017, and Wagner knew the club were looking for his successor.

Wagner also joined from Dortmund's reserve team in 2015.
Hoyle said: 'We've appointed someone who bears many similarities to David, a young, aspirational German from Dortmund.
'However, that does a disservice to Jan, who is his own man. There is much more to this appointment than that.
'Jan's name came to our attention in his previous role at VfL Bochum. We first spoke with him over two years ago and we've kept in communication since. David was fully aware that we were undertaking this work. You must prepare for the future.'
Siewert has not been set a target of staying up, with Hoyle adding: 'In the short term, we will continue to fight as hard as possible against relegation from the Premier League. We're not giving up on that.
'We will also plan for the medium and long term, whatever the outcome.'
